This book case was the first piece we painted using chalk paint. I don't have a before of this one, but suffice it to say it wasn't great; my husband had previously used black spray paint on it. The bookshelf was actually made by my husband's paternal grandfather so we knew we wanted to refurbish it instead of throw it out. The black definitely wasn't going to look good in our new home. We opted for the Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Linen which has a gray-brown, neutral finish. We also added in dark wax to give it that antique look.
The great thing about Annie's paints is that if you can't find the exact color you want, you can combine colors to get the one that's just right. Check out the Purple Painted Lady's Paint Mixer tool to see what colors will look like combined. This has been a big help to us when trying to decide which colors to purchase.
What do you think of the completed look? Do you have a piece in your home that needs a makeover?
